When she went to pick it up late one Friday afternoon, the transaction was interrupted by three young men wielding pistols and demanding the works of art of Kubes, a jewelry store located today in and around the same West Berry location for more than 70 years. Well, it was in April 1978 that she had taken my bank to Kubes Jewelers to get my date of First Communion inscribed. There’d be some scratching off with quarters or something or another. It’s probably a good thing she didn’t live to see us married. On them, she had inscribed the date of the sacraments received through the years as part of the faith formation in the Catholic tradition.īaptism as a month old. I hope this helped save you some frustration.During the very earliest stages of life, my grandmother bought us all, my older brother and sister and me, piggy banks made out of some silver amalgam. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I swore I would never go back, my mistake. As I got the same attitude from this store one year ago when shopping for my fiances engagement ring. I was so annoyed with this superior attitude that I said to her «here never mind about the watches and you can put the earrings back, I'll go purchase some from another store, have a nice day.» Coincidentally, part of this incident was my fault. On top of all that the woman had the arrogance to look at my watch and say something to the effect of «Oh I've never even heard of this brand» like it was beneath her to remove links from anything but a Rolex. I wouldn't have cared if she said like «ok its 5 bucks» but $15 per watch and 1 dollar off! It was more insulting than anything especially since I was there to purchase expensive earrings!! She prob didn't even make 15/per hour and its maybe 5 mins worth of work. Really? What happened to jewlers doing something quick and simple like removing a link for free. The woman told me that they charge $15 per watch to remove a link but that they could give me a dollar off since I had 2 watches. So 2 watches 2 links and buy 1200 earrings. I would recommend going to Kubes to anyone and I plan on going straight back to Chris at Kubes once it comes time for me to buy the wedding bands.Į. For an unfamiliar process like buying a diamond ring, the level of trust I had with him was very comforting. ![]() One of the biggest thing I can say about Chris is that I trusted that what he was saying to me was truthful - there was no double speak. Chris was extremely communicative during the process of my ultimately having a custom ring made and I love my purchase (as does my fiance). He never tried to up-sell me (in contrast to the other jeweler) and was very helpful by offering suggestions, searching for better choices of stones for me, and fully explaining to me my various options. Whereas when I was looking at settings/stones with the other jeweler he seemed to have his attention on any number of things beyond me, when I was working with Chris, his focus was solely on me and my needs. From the minute I started dealing with Chris, I preferred his service over the other jeweler. Cond opinion and to validate my pending choice of the first jeweler.
